About Me

James Parker is a psychotherapist licensed in Marriage and Family Therapy based in San Diego, California. He has been licensed for over 15 years and served as a practicing therapist

and a clinical supervisor for the majority of that time. James specializes in marital/couple relational problems, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, grief and loss, and executive/ workplace challenges. Relatedly, he worked in personal and professional development, facilitating seminars and meeting with individuals as an executive and life coach. James supervises graduate-level trainees and associate interns for California-based agencies as a contract provider assisting in oversight in areas such as domestic violence, addictions, mood and anxiety disorders, psychosocial stressors, and acute care of inpatient, PHP, and IOP. One of James’ outcomes is to help emerging clinicians build competent clinical skills as well as find confidence in developing their own clinical identity. Other professional roles that James currently holds is that of Lead Faculty and Area Chair for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences with the University of Phoenix. In this role he oversees the Practicum aspect of the program both interfacing with local agencies as well as teaching the majority of the master's level Practicum/Internship coursework for the California- based region of the University. James also is an adjunct professor for Palomar College where he teaches Academic and Life Skills and Career/Life Planning for freshman students. James believes that this field is a broad and deep area to explore and can create a lifelong pursuit of many passions! Personally, he enjoys strength training, mixed martial arts and jujitsu, and strategy board gaming.
