About Me

Paul is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with more than 20 years of clinical practice in various settings, including private practice, chemical dependency, hospice, community-based organizations, the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), as an adjunct professor at two universities, and as an executive of the nonprofit he founded. Paul is known as a “go-to person” in and around the San Francisco Bay Area when it comes to serving the relational and psychological needs of children, teens, adults, couples, and families.

In 2015, Paul completed his dissertation research project, which sought to understand the grief experiences of seven war widows who lost their husbands during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Paul was surprised to find such a huge void within the scientific community in regard to how spouses of combat veterans killed in action (KIA) experience traumatic loss. He wanted to contribute a meaningful study, comprised of personal stories of loss, to rectify this void and used interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) to analyze the data. From these data, seven superordinate and 26 emerging themes were extracted, which Paul hopes will inform clinical practice, the education of psychology students, and help guide future research.

In 2016, the Remarkable Marriage and Family Institute began operations domestically in California, providing psychotherapy to individuals and families in the Bay Area. Internationally, Remarkable was created to develop relevant, scalable real-world solutions to address international trauma and to implement a multi-cultural mental health counseling training program for students, staff, and support organizations to benefit the children and families they serve.

Dr. Kramer enjoys spending time with his four adult children, son-in-law, and grandson. You can find him exploring the great outdoors every chance he gets.
